Including all the content from both the Wii U and arcade versions of Pokkén Tournament, Pokkén Tournament DX introduces an array of exciting new features.

New ways to play

Play Pokkén Tournament DX in TV mode, handheld mode, or share a Joy-Con with another trainer to battle one-on-one in tabletop mode anywhere! Enjoy local multiplayer matches in split-screen or single screen mode, or with another Nintendo Switch console in Wireless Battle*.

New Battle Pokémon

Decidueye, Croagunk, Scizor, Empoleon, and Darkrai have joined the fray, alongside the Pokémon from the Wii U version, including Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo and more. There are over 20 Battle Pokémon to choose from, and they’re all available from the start of the game.

New Support Pokémon

Starter Pokémon Litten and Popplio from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon make their debut to lend their support in battle. Just like Battle Pokémon, every Support Pokémon is unlocked at the start of the game.

Team Battle mode

In this mode, choose three Pokémon and battle your opponent’s Pokémon one by one to win.

Group Match mode

In this online** mode, find similarly skilled players in battle rooms and participate in intense and fun battles.

Watch battle replays

Hone your skills by watching other players’ replays and share your best matches online** with the new replay feature.

Daily Challenges

Undertake challenges with different Pokémon each day to earn skill points that you can use to level up your Battle Pokémon!

*Wireless Battle requires one copy of the software and one system per player.

Take direct control of powerful Battle Pokémon in intense real-time battles, where Pokémon move and attack in direct responses to your commands. The simple, intuitive controls make this fighting game accessible to players of any skill level while still offering plenty to learn and master.

Play it your way

Do you have what it takes to become the Pokkén Tournament DX champion? Work your way up through the Ferrum League to prove you’re the best battle trainer around, discovering the story of Shadow Mewtwo along the way! Or, if it’s all about bragging rights, take on your friends and family in local and online multiplayer modes.

Local multiplayer – Hand a Joy-Con to another player to compete in head-to-head matches in TV or tabletop mode. If you’re sharing a screen, trade blows in either split-screen or single screen mode. Encountered another player who has their own Nintendo Switch and a copy of the game? Take them on in a Wireless Battle!

Online multiplayer – Match yourself against specific friends or take down random opponents in both Friendly and Rank Matches. Test your skills in intense and fun Group Matches, where you can take on similarly skilled players in battle rooms.

Customise for victory

In Pokkén Tournament DX, you can customise your trainer and Battle Pokémon in a number of ways – some fun and some functional!

Level up – Each Battle Pokémon can be levelled up individually by assigning skill points to specific attributes. You could build your own Decidueye that specialises in one of the four skills – attack, defense, strategy, or Synergy – or a balance of all four.

Support Pokémon – Call in Support Pokémon to aid you in battle! Support Pokémon come in pairs, and you choose a set before entering a battle. If you know you won’t have much health you can call in a Pokémon that restores your HP. Alternatively, you can send in a Pokémon to deal a devastating attack if you subscribe to the school of offence over defence.

Trainer style – There’s a lot of scope to make your trainer your own, showing off your style every time you battle. Customise your trainer’s skin color, eye colour, hair style and choose from a variety of different outfits.

You can unlock items with amiibo

Did you know that every amiibo (sold separately) works in Pokkén Tournament DX? If you tap an amiibo on the NFC touchpoint on the right Joy-Con or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (sold separately), you can unlock in-game items up to five times a day. This includes in-game currency, accessories and titles. You never know, that what you were always after may become available after scanning your favourite amiibo. Handy!

Pokkén Tournament DX evolves the fighting genre in its own unique way to create an experience that’s simultaneously familiar and fresh!

Simple controls

By combining a direction with one of your three attack buttons – weak attack, strong attack and Pokémon move – it’s easy to execute powerful attacks and combo-breaking counters!

When holding a single Joy-Con sideways, you can defend against any attack move using the SR Button, or the R Button when using other compatible controllers. Don’t be too overcautious though – defending leaves you open for grab attacks and gives your opponent an opportunity to break your block!

Rock, paper, scissors

Pokkén Tournament DX’s Attack Triangle is designed around a rock, paper, scissors foundation that’s attributed to normal, counter, and grab attacks respectively.

In short, normal attacks beat grabs, counter attacks absorb and crush normal attacks, and a grab stops a counter attack in its tracks. Get to grips with this style of combat and you’ll fare much better against tougher rivals.

Fast, frantic fighting

In addition to the core combat, Pokkén Tournament DX uses a dynamic two phase battle system that keeps combatants constantly on their toes.

All battles start in Field Phase, where you’re free to move in 360 degrees and have access to elaborate projectile attacks. Skilful movement, jumping and dashing are essential to avoid your opponent’s attacks as you try to land that essential hit that’ll shift combat into Duel Phase.

In Duel Phase, the battle moves to a 2D plane, similar to a traditional 2D fighting game. Use a variety of attacks to trade blows and chip away at your rival’s HP. After enough damage has been dealt, combat will automatically shift back to Field Phase.

You’ll need to learn this ever-changing combat setup and factor in additional dynamics, such as different arena shapes and the absurdly powerful – but limited – Synergy Burst to emerge victorious from these energetic and surprising bouts!

A fighter for every style of play

Choose your Battle Pokémon from a roster of 20 playable fighters. Each Battle Pokémon has its own unique fighting style that adds depth to each battle.
